Tattoo on the back of Hope Ybarra, a mother who suffered from Münchausen syndrome and Münchausen syndrome by proxy, who was convicted in 2009 of serious bodily injury to a child after pretending her youngest daughter had chronic cystic fibrosis. While Hope herself was pretending to have chemotherapy for cancer, she told others she had become pregnant with twins. Her husband said that he didn’t doubt her but found it strange as they rarely had sex. For 5 months Hope wore maternity clothes, attended doctors appointments and had even picked out names for her twin girls. Then, two weeks into her cancer treatment, she informed her family that she had miscarried. Some time after, Hope got this tattoo as she said she had earned her wings and that the stars represented her children. 3 for the daughters she already had and 2 for the twins she had lost. She spent $2,500 on a funeral for the babies, kept the ashes in an urn on the mantelpiece and asked for them to be buried with her when she died. After her arrest, Hope confirmed that the pregnancy had been a lie.
